Drum roll, please…our new brush engine is finally here (plus a few other helpful updates)! We’ve had an exciting month here at Magma and can’t wait to have you try everything we’ve been working on. Dive in below!

Perspective Grid Personalization

You now have more ways to personalize your perspective grids! With our new visibility toggles, you’ll be able to easily show or hide the horizon lines, vanishing points, and grid lines of any perspective grid on the canvas.

You can also change the colors of vanishing points and grid lines — great for differentiating between the perspective grids of multiple artists.

Brush Presets

To make drawing in Magma even smoother, we’re now letting all users store brush presets in the new My Brushes section. This will let you save your favorite custom brushes and access them any time! Blaze users can store unlimited presets, while those on the Spark plan can store up to 3.

Advanced Brush Settings

Based on requests from our community, we’ve released new brush settings to give you even more artistic flexibility. You’ll find them in the new Advanced Settings window: your new, dedicated space to customize brushes and preview what their strokes will look like.

Our new brush settings include:

Brush Tip Shape - Flip X & Flip Y

  • Flip the alpha shape assigned to the brush either horizontally or vertically

Angle & roundness controller

  • Adjust the angle of rotation of your brush. This controller is linked to the angle slider, providing the ability to adjust the angle of rotation with either the slider or the controller

  • For further customization, adjust the small dots on the controller to change roundness of the alpha shape

Roundness slider

  • Adjust the roundness of your brush. This slider is linked to the angle & roundness controller.

New cursor type

  • Magma’s default cursor now renders the alpha shape as your brush cursor!

Cursor classic setting

  • If you prefer to work with the classic round cursor shape, select this setting within the Application Settings menu.

Brush Preview

  • Within the Advanced Settings window, check out the realtime brush preview to see what your brush output will look like based on the options you’ve selected!

Note: Within the Advanced Settings menu, a few settings are currently disabled as they are still in development. To help us decide which brush features we should release next, please fill out this survey. We’d love to know which brush options are most important to your creative pursuits, and we’ll use your feedback to choose what to prioritize in future releases.

We would love your feedback on our brush tools and your thoughts on which features we should release next — go to the Feature Requests page in Magma to let us know. Happy drawing!
